I really look forward to our upcoming shoot and I hope this page helps you navigate some of the necessities.

Ultimately, this shoot is all about you two. Some choose more formal attire while others love to be more casual. There are no rules to it. Be yourselves. The main things you want to keep in mind are:

Before your session please try your outfits on together and text/email me a few mirror selfies (head to toe with shoes) so that I can see how both of your outfits play together. We want to make sure everything is looking right and that nothing will photograph poorly.

Upon request, I can provide you contact details for a personal stylist should you want/need some extra help.

  • If you don’t love the entire outfit(s) or it highlights a part of you that you’re self-conscious about, just choose something else. Confidence is key in this regard and you want to feel great!

  • Choose clothes that allow you to move freely without feeling confined in the clothes. You want to be able to sit, stand, twirl, run through a field (if the spirit moves you), etc. Fighting your clothes will become annoying.

  • Keep it classic. Stay away from busy and novel. You don’t want to roll your eyes in twenty years because of the clothes.

  • Coordinate colors, fabrics, tones, but do not match. No stereotypical family photo where everyone is in khaki and cream linen tops, etc.

  • In general, muted colors and palettes tend to photograph better than super vibrant colors, which can sometimes overpower the camera sensor or reflect onto you or your partners skin. Pops of color can be great, but best not to overdue it.

  • Don’t be afraid to layer, especially in colder seasons. Aside from the warm, it’s a quick way to subtly change the vibe/look. This is also true in Spring/Summer, but should be with lighter materials.

  • The outfits should make sense in the areas and locations we’ll be shooting in so please consider that before committing.

  • If we are shooting in a natural area, free of pavement, please be sure to bring a pair of flats or tennis shoes to slip on while we’re transitioning around the location, especially if you only plan to wear heels… don’t want to hurt the feet too much.

  • Gentlemen - please do not wear any open-toe shoes, or flip flops.

For Men:

Please let me know if I can be of anymore assistance. Feel free to text me at 704-502-4567, or email me with some options or questions. If you want to play it safe, you can bring multiple options to our shoot and we can decide there.

  • Dresses work really well. Feel free to grab a cocktail dress and/or maxi or some sort of dress that flows. They work well if we are walking in a field or if we are shooting near the shore. Cocktail attire is great if we are shooting in town. If you’re not feeling the most confident with your arms try to stay away from anything that over-accentuates.

  • Stay away from halter/tube tops.

  • Pants and layered tops work well too.

  • Places to shop: Anthropologie, Madewell, Free People, Nordstrom, Christy Dawn, Zara

  • It is really important that you’re able to move in the clothes you choose without feeling uncomfortable, so please keep this in mind. Being able to sit, walk, twirl, dance, be silly, etc is valuable on a shoot like this. You don’t want to be held back in how you move or interact with each other.

  • I also HIGHLY recommend getting your hair and makeup done before the shoot, especially if you’re someone who doesn’t wear much makeup on a day to day basis. This will help your face pop a bit more on camera. You don’t have to go over-board, but something is better than nothing. There are many local artists, but my wife co-owns a business that I recommend. They’re called LookLove Beauty (IG @looklovebabes). I may be partial, but I do know they’re the best around Charlotte.
  • fitted denim or chinos work well

  • You can simply change your shirt if you don’t want two completely different outfits.

  • Places to shop: J Crew, Bonobos, Buck Mason, Nordstrom, Banana Republic

  • Oxford and Chambray shirts photograph really well.

  • Try to stay away from really small gingham, or tiny stripe patterns. If you want to dress it up, you can simply add a blazer to a button up and denim.

  • If we’re shooting in Spring/Summer and you sweat a lot, it’s wise to have duplicate shirts or bring a towel to help blot.
