There either is or is not a way things are.

The color of the day.

How it felt to be a child.

The feeling of saltwater on your sunburned legs.

Sometimes the water is yellow.

Sometimes it's red.

The color in memory depends on the day.

I won't tell the story the way it happened.

I'll tell it the way I remember it.

Hi, I'm Jim.

I’m a wedding photographer based in Charlotte, North Carolina who regularly shoots weddings all over the South. I started with wedding photography back in 2008. Sabrina and I live just outside of uptown near the NoDa Arts District and Plaza Midwood.

My pursuit of the arts began at an early age with many creative endeavors, most notably, drums, guitar, and a fascination with cameras. As I transitioned out of the music business in my mid-twenties, cameras, and photography quickly took hold. Wedding photography allowed me to combine my love of travel, friends, and relationships all into one fantastic day. I like images that are classic, colorful, happy, and honest.

On weekends, you can usually find me photographing weddings at venues like The Biltmore Estate, Duke Mansion, Separk Mansion, Boone Hall Plantation, Morning Glory Farm, Middleton Place, and Lowndes Grove. If you like what you see here, please drop me a message. I'd love to say hello.

My approach to

wedding photography

1. Documenting your wedding day as it happens - the tender moments between newlyweds, the joy of guests, the bittersweet tears between parents, and all of the emotion wrapped up between you and your people on your wedding day.

2. I appreciate keeping things simple and communicative. If you need me, I'm here to help. I will guide you though the process, formulate a plan, work with you and your planner on a schedule so we can make the most of the day.

3. To me, love is love. It doesn't matter who. All are welcome.

4. My wedding photography style is both documentary and lifestyle. What does this mean if you're a bride or groom? Mainly, I'm confident directing you through a series of images to tell a story, but I will also encourage you to be free, wild, silly, stupid, rowdy, or whatever else comes out! The key is to have fun and the day is yours to enjoy!

5. I edit my weddings in a way that will look good forever. My work is neither "dark and moody" or "light and airy". I like rich colors, contrast, and clean skin tones that are true to the day. Everything mimics the look and quality of film because it stands against the test of time.

Kind Words from past Brides & Grooms

From the moment my wife and I met Jim, we felt super comfortable and acted like our silly selves. That’s important for your relationship with your photographer. Once we found out he loved dogs too, we knew it was a perfect fit. I cannot get over the amazing pictures he captured for our engagement shoot and our recent wedding. Jim went above and beyond, taking a boat to an island and wading through the water with his gear to capture the perfect lake photo. At our wedding he was more than a photographer, he was a friend. He was getting me drinks and tending to my needs in addition to taking the most wonderful photos of the event. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a quality photographer who will go above and beyond for you on your special days.

Jim is every couple's DREAM wedding photographer. From the first meeting, I knew we made the right choice. He made me feel so calm throughout the day, and reminded me to breathe, relax, and enjoy. Jim has a knack for capturing the candid moments that truly mean the most at the end of the day. We are so happy with our wedding pictures and we also gained a friend! Cheers, Jim!

Jim Trice is the consummate professional, and his work exceeded expectations. My wife and I hired Jim as our wedding photographer based on referrals from friends. Jim made himself available to us throughout the entire planning process- via email, phone, and in-person meetings. Jim took the time to understand our sense of style, which he showcased perfectly in his final product. Jim's confidence, knowledge, and professionalism put us at ease, and everyone from our wedding planner to the wedding party mentioned how easy he was to work with. Jim delivered photographs that my wife and I will be proud to show family and friends many years from now.

What Should We Do For Our Engagement Session?

That's a great question! Firstly, I definitely recommend engagement sessions to all of my couples because they're great ice breakers for the photographically uninitiated. But don't worry, that's about 99% of all brides and grooms. I'll make you look good no matter your experience level. Next, I recommend a quick chat to find out what you both like and want to get out of the session. Sometimes we head to the beach, or a special place, but the trick is to find something that makes you comfortable and draws you closer together. We'll figure out your wardrobe and then it's just a matter of throwing on your happy face and lettin' it rip! If you can play around and have a laugh together, leave everything else up to me!

How Do We Book You?

Booking your wedding day is super simple. I will send you a couple of links to a contract that you can e-sign and then pay a retainer by check, Venmo, or credit card. For your wedding day to be officially booked, a contract must be signed and retainer paid. My retainer is 50% of your collection unless we agree on another payment schedule, which I'm totally open to if you're trying to make it all work. I get it.
