From the moment my wife and I met Jim, we felt super comfortable and acted like our silly selves. That’s important for your relationship with your photographer. I cannot get over the amazing pictures he captured for our engagement shoot and our recent wedding. Jim went above and beyond, taking a boat to an island and wading through the water with his gear to capture the perfect lake photo. At our wedding he was more than a photographer, he was a friend. He was getting me drinks and tending to my needs in addition to taking the most wonderful photos of the event. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a quality photographer who will go above and beyond for you on your special days.

Testimonials

Jim is every couple's DREAM wedding photographer. From the first meeting, I knew we made the right choice. He made me feel so calm throughout the day, and reminded me to breathe, relax, and enjoy. Jim has a knack for capturing the candid moments that truly mean the most at the end of the day. We are so happy with our wedding pictures and we also gained a friend! Cheers, Jim!

Testimonials

I've worked with Jim Trice for shoots in the past and knew I would call him for wedding photos. I chose my date because of his availability (he's that amazing). Pictures last a lifetime, but they last forever with Jim! He's amazing at what he does, sees a vision for the shoot that somehow exceeds what you dreamt in your mind and does NOT stop moving. His attention to detail, down to the final product, is perfection. Slow clap for another job well done!

Testimonials

Jim Trice is the consummate professional, and his work exceeded expectations. My wife and I hired Jim as our wedding photographer based on referrals from friends. Jim made himself available to us throughout the entire planning process- via email, phone, and in-person meetings. Jim took the time to understand our sense of style, which he showcased perfectly in his final product. Jim's confidence, knowledge, and professionalism put us at ease, and everyone from our wedding planner to the wedding party mentioned how easy he was to work with. Jim delivered photographs that my wife and I will be proud to show family and friends many years from now.

Testimonials

My wife and I hired Jim to take our engagement photos and shoot our wedding day. I can say that without a doubt, it was one of the easiest and best decisions we made throughout the entire process of planning our wedding. The attention to detail that Jim shows when shooting, comes to fruition when you see the photographs from your event. He makes you feel comfortable and goes the extra mile to ensure that he captures the moment in a unique way. I would recommend Jim to anyone that is in need of a photographer for any type of event - and I know that you will be 100% satisfied with the finished product.

Testimonials

Born in Annapolis, Jim began life constantly on the move. By the time he graduated high school he had lived in seven houses in just about every corner of the United States. These moves fostered an early love and appreciation for photography because of the camera’s ability to preserve life’s moments.

At the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, Jim studied the art of still, and motion picture, photography where he graduated with a B.A. in Film. During this time, he started playing drums in a touring band. The traveling associated from a life on the road reminded him of his youth and further solidified his love of photography in his twenties.

In 2008, Jim started photographing weddings in Charlotte, North Carolina. Now with over 10 years of experience he’s shot weddings all over the United States and world with destinations in the Caribbean, Europe and Australia. He has a passion for shooting film and being an integral part of the wedding day. Jim is patient, calm and confident in guiding his clients so they can relax and enjoy one of the most important days of their lives. His goal is to capture natural, timeless photographs that appreciate in value as the years and decades of life carry on.

When he’s not photographing weddings you can find him hanging in NoDa with his beautiful girlfriend, Sabrina. They love wings & cocktails at Growlers Pourhouse and Americanos at Smelly Cat. They’re constantly going to concerts and traveling the globe when they’ve got the time.

Most couples don’t realize that you’ll spend more time with your photographer on your wedding day than your significant other...

It’s so important that you not only get along, but truly understand each other, the process, and what it takes to create the images that you’ll love for the rest of your life.

What kind of equipment do you use? Do you have backup gear?
I shoot on professional Nikon (film and digital) and Pentax medium format. I'm a hybrid photographer, which means I shoot a mix of film and digital. Why both? Digital helps me keep up with the faster parts of the day. And film because it has an ethereal quality to it that can't be matched. It loves light. I usually have 3-5 cameras with me on a wedding day so there's plenty of redundancy. That goes for insurance too. Got it covered.

How many photos will we get from our wedding?
This number largely depends on the amount of time, details, bridal party size, locations, etc. Generally, I deliver anywhere from 50-100 images per hour of coverage. I carefully select each and every one of your images because I believe less is more. I strive to tell your story concisely and in the most beautiful way possible. The mindset of going through 600 photos is much different than if there were 1200. It shouldn't be a race... sometimes letting a photo evoke a shared memory is better than having everything laid out right in front of you. Going through your photos with your spouse should be a special and tender experience.

How do we book you for our date?
To reserve your wedding day, a retainer of 50% of your package price is due at the signing of the contract. The remaining balance can be paid 7 days prior to your wedding day.

Can we customize our wedding collection?
My wedding collections are designed for simplicity's sake, but if you've seen something you'd like to add, or discuss, please just let me know. I'm happy to make customizations. I find that my offerings address most of your wedding day needs, but understand that no wedding day is exactly the same.

Can you travel to my wedding?
Absolutely. Traveling, both personally and professionally, is one of my favorite things and it's the source of my greatest inspiration. There can never be too many new places, cultures or people.
